1. Clear roof debris

When you’re doing roof inspections, which you should be doing regularly, you should be looking for debris. That will most likely be leaves and other natural debris that has blown off nearby trees. It’s very easy for it to accumulate on the roof, so you need to clear it off regularly. 

This is especially important during the winter. If you ever get snow, it can hide any debris that’s underneath. That’s going to cause more issues for you in the long run, such as potential leaks and ice dams. As such, keep a close eye on the roof and remove debris as soon as you see it. 

2. Keep weight off the roof

As your roof is a flat roof, weight is always going to be a concern. It’s tempting to place lots of objects on the roof to decorate, but remember that they’re going to place extra weight on that roof structure. The roof will only be able to hold so much weight, and if you exceed that then it’s going to cause issues. 

When there’s excess weight, this will lead to sinking of the roof. You would typically see this in older roofs, when they haven’t been properly maintained. As such, adding this extra weight will prematurely age the roof and lead to a whole replacement being needed sooner.
